CASH STRAIGHT FROM CASES
The complete guide to selling CS2 cases for cash
Counter-Strike 2 cases are random loot boxes that players can open in Steam with a key to receive a single weapon skin. A key detail many players miss is that the case itself is also valuable — often significantly more valuable than its contents. In particular, cases with retired status have proven to be one of the best long-term 'investments' in the gaming world.
Which cases are the most valuable?
Right now the most valuable CS2 cases are mostly retired-status, released between 2013–2015. Prices fluctuate with the market, but the general ranking holds:
- CS:GO Weapon Case 1, 2 and 3 — the game's originals, released in 2013
- Operation Bravo Case — 2013, contains the AK-47 Fire Serpent
- Operation Breakout Case — 2014, contains Butterfly Knives
- Operation Phoenix Case — 2014, AWP Asiimov and P90 Asiimov
- Operation Vanguard Case — 2014, M4A1-S Knight and others
- Huntsman Weapon Case — 2014, AWP Pink DDPAT and M4A4 Desert Storm
- Chroma and Chroma 2 Case series — 2015, contains knives
Why is opening a case almost always a bad deal?
A key costs ~€2.50 on Steam, and the expected value of one opening is statistically negative — players receive on average 70–80% of the combined key + case price. By selling an unopened case instead, you keep its full market value and skip the €2.50 key cost entirely. Over the long run, not opening tends to deliver better euro returns — especially for retired cases.
How does Skinsauna price cases?
Our offer is based on the live Steam Community Market listing price, with an average 10% haircut applied to enable instant payout. That means for a Bravo Case with a Steam price of €18.40, you get about €16.56 straight to your account via SEPA Instant. Our price guarantee: if another European service offers more for the same case, we match or beat it.
Can I also sell keys and key-type items?
Steam Keys (the ones that open cases) are not freely tradeable in the same way cases are — they're locked to the account for 7 days after purchase. Keys you've held longer are sellable, but the value is typically €2.30–€2.50 per key. Skinsauna accepts all tradeable CS2 items: cases, keys, sticker capsules, autograph capsules, music kits and pin badges.
Are case sales tax-free in Europe?
Income from selling cases is generally taxable across Europe. For small individual sales the tax impact is minor, but if total sales reach significant amounts it can be treated as capital or other taxable income. Skinsauna does not withhold tax at source — the reporting obligation is on the seller. We recommend talking to a tax advisor if your annual sales reach thousands of euros.
